County Commissioner's Welcome

My name  is Christine Davey, the County Commissioner for Girlguiding Cornwall, and I welcome you to Girlguiding in our wonderful County of Cornwall where Guiding is happening from coast to coast.  We have Rainbows, Brownies and Guide members on the Isles of Scilly and from Lands End to Launceston and Torpoint, together with Senior Section members in all the main towns and villages across the whole of Cornwall.

Girlguiding is as strong as ever in Cornwall with the girls taking part in camps, holidays, adventures, parties and celebrations throughout the year.  2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Rainbow Guides whilst 2014 is the Centenary of the Brownie Guides.  We will be celebrating both of these events here in Cornwall with parties and special activities.  The Leaders will have fun too!

I am passionate about guiding and I wish to see more members and volunteers join our movement, giving them the fun and experiences that I have come to love.  I want us to continue to encourage the young girls and women of today to have their voice, and to provide a unique girl-only space.  Every day we provide good guiding by following the simple principles that Baden Powell himself gave us and I want ensure that we continue to do this.  In guiding we follow the guiding method of the five guiding essentials: making decisions, team work, balanced and varied programme, and individual caring, the fifth of course being the one thing that brings us together and makes us different from many other youth organisations - our commitment to a common standard, which includes the Promise all our members take.

Please have a look at the rest of our Website to find out more about Girlguiding in Cornwall.
